Compressors and pumps for industry
Thomas provides innovative solutions for new and evolving markets, as today's ever changing technology creates increasing demands for pressure, vacuum and flow.
Our pumps and compressors are widely used in a diverse range of applications including the following:
Dermabrasion is most often used to improve the look of facial skin left scarred by accidents or previous surgery, or to smooth out fine facial wrinkles, such as those around the mouth. It's also sometimes used to remove the pre-cancerous growths called keratoses. Dermaplaning is commonly used to treat deep acne scars.
Used to remove solder from circuit board assemblies during repair work. The spring-loaded plunger is depressed into the cylinder and locked down. The vacuum created at the tip of the desoldering tool removes the molten solder from the board.
This includes evacuation of moulds in casting, vacuum chucking, removal of gases and vapors, and the removal of film and blister packages for bottles, cans and jars.
These devices are used in the agriculture industry today and are attached to the tractor when a farmer is either seeding or applying chemicals to his crops. They produce a ball of foam that is dropped on the ground so the farmer can line up his tractor upon the return trip. This will prevent the farmer from over seeding or applying too many chemicals.
A fuel cell is an electrochemical energy conversion device that converts hydrogen and oxygen into water, producing electricity and heat in the process. A fuel cell provides a DC (direct current) voltage that can be used to power motors, lights or any number of electrical appliances. There are several different types of fuel cells, each using a different chemistry.
Vacuum pressure impregnation of metal castings and powdered metal parts refers to the sealing of leaks resulting from porosity. The impregnating material, as a liquid, is introduced into the voids of porosity within the wall of the part using vacuum and pressure. The material is then solidified, filling the porous openings and making the part pressure tight.
Today's state-of-the-art duplicators for photocopiers often utilise compressed air for tasks such as transporting paper, cooling fusers, and actuating the cylinders which perform the finishing functions.
In today's fast paced world people want their film developed right away. This has brought about a growing market for one-hour photo marts. These new high tech machines can develop film from negative to final print in less than an hour. They require compressed air to blow lint off the negatives during development.
This type of equipment is ideal for body shops, fleets, maintenance garages and farms. It creates a pilot arc that allows the operator to cut through steel, aluminium and stainless steel. Compressed air is mixed with the gas to create a hotter flame that allows finer cuts to be made.
As a growing popular alternative to sun beds, spray tanning machines utilise a compressor within a system that provides compressed air through a hopper containing the fake tan solution either mounted prior to or into the spray gun itself. This method results in a continuous flow and pressure delivery of tanning agent.
Compressed air and vacuum are both used within the tooth whitening process as a cleaning tool. Once the peroxide gel mix has been cured by a high intensity light, a suction pump is used to remove any excess hardened gel that has not taken to the teeth. Compressors are used to provide jets of air to blow out any loose debris at the end of the procedure.
Companies that do topography mapping and layout work, use a vacuum frame. A sheet of "virgin" film is placed in the holder. The cover is closed to draw a vacuum which pulls the film tight. Once the required vacuum is reached, a light is shown through the film to create a positive image of your picture. A negative slide is created from the positive image which will allow you to produce as many copies as required.
This is an application that requires fixtures, pads and plates to be held in place for a pre-determined amount of time so that other work can be performed. Vacuum holding is widely used in woodworking and small metal working facilities.
